Stress isn't healthy for an individual of any age so it's important to stay away from it. Although it cannot always be prevented, there are things you can do to help relieve the stress and help your mind to relax.

Stress relievers
The soothing scent of lavender can help lower your heart rate and blood pressure. It also helps you fall asleep. Purchase a lavender-scented moisturizer, or keep some dried lavender near your bed.

Being stressed out can send your sweet tooth into overdrive. If this happens, reach for a chocolate-covered strawberry. Not only are they delicious but the vitamin C in the berries will offer protection from damaging free radicals while the dark chocolate reduces the stress hormone cortisol.

It may seem like a no-brainer but a bath offers soothing effects as it helps to connect you to that time you were in the womb. Lavender bath oils or aromatherapy candles are a perfect addition to reduce stress levels.

If you can visit a spa, try a Swedish massage to improve circulation and help you relax using gentle, soothing strokes. There are also aromatherapy massages that utilize oils to help you relieve tension.

An easy way to help relieve stress in a natural way is to drink chamomile tea. According to Health Magazine, the tea acts as a mild tranquilizer because it contains compounds that bind to the same brain receptors as prescription painkillers. If you aren't one for drinking tea then try chamomile supplements to reduce anxiety and reduce stress.

Relaxing in a sauna is another way to relive yourself of stress. When the body heats up, muscles relax and anxiety subsides while also improving your mood.

To ease stress and migraines, try reflexology and give yourself a foot rub. For this alternative medicine option, you apply pressure to different parts of the body, such as under the base of your toes, to relax the head and the ball of your foot to target the chest.

Meditation, even only 15 minutes, can calm you down and relieve a significant amount of tension. All you need is quiet time to yourself so you can focus on your breathing while releasing the plethora of thoughts that may be running through your head.

Exercising and eating healthy are additional ways to reduce stress and make yourself feel much better. Yoga, Tai Chi or water aerobics will release endorphins into the brain to improve your mood. Eating healthy will prevent you from becoming depressed, as junk food can contribute to higher stress levels.
